I’m not a one-woman-band by nature, I never was. I always liked collaborating and being part of a team.
As a photo editor and shoot producer during my magazine days, I would make sure to hire people who I loved. I hired hair and makeup artists and stylists that I wanted to be with because the friendly nature of my relationships would be palpable on set. It created a safe space for everyone. Launching careers of talented artists and advocating to properly pay them for their work to be published (in national publications!) was the best part of my old career, and I’ve done the same thing with Michelle Rose Photo.
When I started my business, I hired my favorite retouching team (Color Consulting) immediately. Even when I was making pennies, I knew I couldn’t do it all without them while also juggling a full-time job. I was happy to share the small amount I was making with someone else after facing times early in my career when I was living paycheck to paycheck. As soon as I could start hiring photo assistants and a studio manager, I found people who I wanted to be around and genuinely loved sharing my passion with.
I made it through the pandemic shutdown and came out stronger on the other side, guided by instinct and determination to not give up. Once I saw that Michelle Rose Photo had become a sought-after and trusted destination for families, couples, and entrepreneurs, I knew I had to look for my next step. But what the heck was it? I talked about it with everyone… WHAT THE HECK IS NEXT?
Mentoring Works!
My NEXT thing came to me from a podcast, “This Can’t Be That Hard,” where Rebecca Rice was talking about her mini sessions. She talked about associate photographers for about 5 seconds and my ears perked up. I dived into her DMs and quickly set up a mentorship session because I had to hear about her associate experience, and that Zoom chat changed my life! She told me about her second business that was entirely based on associate shoots (in three freaking states!). My team and I looked at each other and silently freaked out with excitement over finding the NEXT thing. (Thank you so much to Rebecca who mentored us along the way!!)
Briar Rose Photo Co. was born!
Briar Rose Photo Co., is a creative photography company with a team of handpicked, talented female photographers , who I’ve mentored to shoot in my signature bright & clean style! Briar is primarily based in New York City. The best part is that Briar offers travel photo sessions in multiple states including the tri-state area and Massachusetts. Some photographers serve multiple states! Aileen serves NYC & Los Angeles. KB serves NY (+ surrounding area) and Florida (mainly Miami). Amanda serves NY, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC. Briar was designed to fit various budgets and offers two different levels of photographers and two different price points. Whether you opt for one of Briar’s long standing photographers or a new face, I guarantee you’ll be happy with your decision!
