Glowy Natural Light Shooting Indoors

Can I still get glowy natural light shooting indoors?

We’ve already chatted about the ideal time to shoot outdoors—especially at the beach—which is midday, early evening, or golden hour. (Read more about that here!) So what about when we’re shooting in your home? How do we choose a time frame that offers the best natural light and overall success for these sessions?

We Got You!

Since the layout and geography of everyone’s home is different, there isn’t really a one-size-fits-all answer to this. But don’t stress, this is where we come in! If you’re thinking of having your photo session indoors, our team will help you determine when your home gets the best light and when we can capture the best photos.

Before shoot day, we’ll ask to see photos of a few areas in your home at different times throughout the day. For example, the bed is often the central location for newborn sessions, so we’ll work together to look for shadows and highlights on your bed made by the sun at different times throughout the day, with the goal being to avoid big highlights on the bed itself. The same approach works with any floor areas, which are often used for smash cake shoots, couch surfaces, and more.

Nope.

Control the Light

By being intentional about securing the ideal timing, we can spend more of our time together focusing on you (versus lightning and technical stuff). But even if you have uneven light in your home, or a space where natural light is hard to come by, we have a number of tricks to help alter the light to keep things looking balanced, glowy, and gorgeous. If needed, we can use flash photography at no additional fee for the session. Photos with flash won’t look exactly like the images captured with natural light, but the love, energy, and moments captured will be just as precious.

Yes!

No matter when or where we shoot, we will create photos that you will cherish forever.
